Sometimes I am the King of Procrastination. It is something that has plagued me for the last two years, and it's time to take off that crown, abdicate and create again.
Not that I haven't been creating, I have written and I have written. I have a great short film script ready to shoot. I have a great new play set outside the world of Paradise Heights - ready to go. I have my first novel that I wrote over a year ago, ready to go. And I have left them all gathering dust...the great Demon 'Why?' took hold of me. What have you got to say? Why should anyone be interested in it? The usual doubts that plague us at times in our lives where problems elsewhere do their best to shoulder their way in and make you question and doubt yourself. I have to shake all that off and this is my forced attempt to do that, to say what I have to say.
This update is about the novel.
THE BENCH
It's based on the play found elsewhere on this site, and with the glowing reviews the play has had each time it went out there I thought it would make a great novel. It has made a great novel. I loved revisiting the characters and the world they live in and I found so much more in writing it, so much more to them and it makes a thumping good read, far more in the novel than the stage play. It was such a sense of achievement getting it completed, I always wanted to write a novel.
So, after months of knock backs from publishers who only want to see a small part of it I've decided to self publish. That has to be easy, right? Ha. It's a minefield. I intend to both publish on ebook platforms and to get some into print too, so I'm currently researching how to do that. It's all very confusing, I'm looking for people out there with some experience of it to give me a hand up, to point me in the right direction, make me aware of the pitfalls, the perils but above all the peaks and how to climb them and get that feeling of satisfaction. The novel is the first in a series, the corner stone for the other tales to come. I'll keep updating with how I'm getting on.
UCLan, where I teach, has its own self publishing department, so I'm enquiring there and looking at 'Get Your Book' published articles on the web, but it's nice to sit down and talk to someone face to face. If that's you please get in touch, I'll buy the coffee's.
