Sixty Second Review: BIRDMAN...(NO SPOILERS)

BIRDMAN: (NO SPOILERS - but you don't have to read this anyhow, go see first if you want) I've had some time to reflect before I go to see it again...

It's stunning, it's so sharp that any kind of creative who goes to see it will end up slashed to pieces...I felt like I left bleeding, and needing a blood transfusion. The direction is stunning, glorious long takes that sweep and move through the theatre and the world outside it, actors throwing out simply stunning performances as it unfolds and takes the piss out of actors giving stunning performances.

Keaton is ON FIRE in the role of a lifetime, a career best, faultless. The whole world of theatre is savagely ripped into, torn apart, and the pieces flung out of the screen.

Ed Norton cast as a wanker method actor, who throws strops on set, pisses all over the project, see's himself as way above everyone else, playing an arrogant tosser who you just want to punch off the screen...bet that was a stretch for him. Naomi Watts - stunning, Emma Stone - amazing - in fact the entire ensemble light it up. With Keaton in the lead role too, and how things have gone for him in the world it's loaded with irony, and it's skin peelingly vicious to any of us 'creative types' in the world...the message loud and clear? We really don't matter, we are not God's answer to creativity, we have no message. It's like sitting there getting punched in the face for two hours.

That said though? It's feckin' brilliant... Go see it, and if you're a creative take the pain, the punches, the slashes, the severing of your creative limbs and take the piss out of yourself.

BUT DON'T STOP DOING WHAT YOU DO...it'll keep you gorgeously insane.

GO SEE, and see it loads of times, I reckon I missed loads of stuff reeling from punches and bowstring taut gags.

BIRDMAN SOARS...9/10
